Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Guillermo Rigondeaux
|
One for the connoisseurs of the sport , and anyone interested to see two of the greatest amateur fighters of all time duke it out for pay
For some reason i was under the impression That Loma had a massive height advantage , as it turns out its only 2" , so combined with the re-hydratrion clause they wont be a million miles apart come fight night , loma will be the bigger guy for sure, but we're not talking Haye v Valuev here .
So , its gunna be down to the skills , which is great , as they both have a shit load .
Rigondeaux is more defensivley sound , superb ring craft but you dont see him punch in combination's too often, he picks his shots , and posseses a pull counter to rival mayweathers.
but i dont think he has seen anyone like loma before , and i expect him to overwhelm rigo , for the late stoppage ..

Buildup[edit] ] "The Lomachenko versus Rigondeaux title fight is a signature event in the sport of boxing. It matches the two greatest fighters in Olympic boxing facing off against each other. Never before in boxing history have two boxers, each the winner of two Olympic gold medals, faced each other in a professional boxing match." — Bob Arum, Top Rank Promoter "It will be a big battle for boxing fans and boxing history. This battle will open our maximum potential. It will be the best New Year's present for boxing fanatics. Trust me on this one." — Vasyl Lomachenko, WBO super featherweight champion "I am excited about Vasyl stepping back in the ring before the year is over. It is a great fight for all boxing lovers and the fans from around the world who asked for it. It is a historic bout for boxing, where for the first time two boxers, two world champions, each holding two Olympic gold medals, will meet in the professional ring. I am looking forward to seeing it." — Egis Klimas, Lomachenko's manager "Regardless of weight class, Rigondeaux is ready to deliver an unforgettable performance." — Roc Nation Sports promoter Michael Yormark "I'm thrilled to be part of this historic fight on ESPN because I've had my eye on fighting Vasyl Lomachenko for a long time. I'm thankful that Roc Nation Sports and Top Rank made this fight happen, and I can't wait to make a statement on Dec. 9 in New York City. Weight classes don't win fights -- fighters do. And I look forward to delivering the best performance of my career, beating a fellow legendary Olympian in Lomachenko and solidifying my place as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters of this era." — Guillermo Rigondeaux, WBA & Lineal super bantamweight champion "This fight against Vasyl Lomachenko is the marquee challenge that Guillermo has been coveting, and we're grateful for Roc Nation Sports' hard work in making this a reality. Throughout Guillermo's career, he has never backed down from any fighter or weight-class restriction, so we're very excited to get to work. It's going to be a battle, but Guillermo will make Cuba, Miami and all of his fans worldwide proud when he beats Lomachenko on Dec. 9." — Alex Bornote, Rigondeaux's manager Broadcast[edit] The card is scheduled to be shown live on ESPN and ESPN Deportes in USA,[8] and on Boxnation in the UK.[9]

Rigo quits in the 6th round. That was a complete non-event Rigo did not even try. I'd post the video to watch it but trust me it's be a waste of 25 mins of your life.

Both equally talented but Lomachenko just too big I think.
I can see a stoppage by the tenth.
Looking forward to this.

i think Rigondeaux will surprise a few people - he's just so hard to hit and so good on the counter.
having said that, Lomachenko has the most amazing skills and hand speed.
hope its not a snooze fest.

yeah he looks great , and has the perfect trainer for his style in Adam Booth.
But like you say, its only when he's in there with someone else who wants to win, that'll will get to see if he's the real deal or not , but he's tiking all the right boxes

Yep, can't wait for it, easily the most intriguing fight for as long as I can remember. Have to go along with Lomachenko winning, think it'll be on points myself.
I'm hoping, and think, that Josh Kelly will be our version of Lomachenko. He looks the real deal, you obviously never know until they're tested but he looks sublime.

This is the two most skilled boxers in decades fighting in their prime, which is very rare yet it has little mainstream attention which is a real shame. As George Foreman said " Boxing is like Jazz, the better it is the less people appreciate it." I think Lomachenko wins by KO but Rigo winning would not surprise me either.

On paper tremendous, and definitely one for the purists. Beautiful fighters to watch, both of them, I hope it doesn't go too far that way and end up an over technical bore fest. Nice to see it in Madison Square Garden as well.
The current odds on Lomachenko are fucking ridiculous in my opinion. He's favourite but 1/5 on best odds my arse. Anything up to 9/2 on Rigondeaux.
